Amanda & Kenny’s Adventure | Winter Franklin Falls Engagement Photos
When Amanda and Kenny booked us for their wedding at a lodge in Easton, Washington, they also knew they wanted to go on an adventure for their engagement photos. Franklin Falls is a waterfall near Snoqualmie Pass. It is a relatively well known and easy hike in the summer. In the winter it becomes a little bit of a different story. Equipped with boots, micro spikes, and of course our high-clearance, all wheel drive vehicles – we went on the excursion to the icy, snowy, falls. It was a gorgeous winter morning, and the sun hadn’t fully burnt through the clouds when we met up at the end of the plowed portion of the forest service road. Our plan was to drive as far as we could through the snow, then hike the remaining distance to the falls. Being from Maine, I love driving in the snow, and Joe just loves taking the Subaru anywhere he can actually use its off-road features. It was a pretty sketchy drive, but somehow we only managed to get stuck once. The rest of the hike was much less eventful, chatting and getting to know each other (which is, admittedly, one of our favorite parts of the engagement session experience. And even more so with adventure sessions, since they usually include a longer hike). Each time we visit Franklin Falls through the winter, it presents us with a unique vista. Sometimes, the waterfall is almost completely frozen over, other times, the snow creates a huge bridge over the frozen river. This time, the warmer weather left us with a perfect little snow island out to the falls, while the river was almost completely melted out. Once we packed up at the falls, the sun peaked out from behind the clouds and the forest lit up beautifully, so of course we couldn’t help but grab “just a few more” during our hike out!
